CNSR Vehicle Inspection in Benin (2026): Online Booking, Fees and Centres

Your car's appointment is now booked online. Since the government's announcement of 16 February 2024, vehicle inspection in Benin runs by appointment, with payment on the service-public.bj portal. This page gathers what official sources confirm: the steps, the published fees, the centres and the link with your insurance.

The CNSR (Centre National de Sécurité Routière, the National Road Safety Center) runs the inspection, which is mandatory for vehicles in circulation and in transit on the territory. Its headquarters are in Ekpè, in the commune of Sèmè-Podji.

The essentials (information checked on 4 October 2026)

• Booking and payment online on service-public.bj, "Contrôle technique automobile" sheet, after paying the Motor Vehicle Tax (TVM).
• Fees on the official sheet: 15,000 FCFA for a light vehicle (annual), 8,500 FCFA for a taxi (quarterly), 19,000 FCFA for a heavy goods vehicle (every six months).
• Centres: Ekpè, Tangbo-Djevié, Bohicon and Parakou.
• No insurance without an up-to-date inspection certificate.

Booking online, step by step

The government published the procedure on 16 February 2024, as part of its "Smart Gouv" drive to digitise public services. It comes down to seven steps.

1. Open service-public.bj.
2. Search for "Contrôle technique automobile".
3. Click "Faire une demande" (make a request).
4. Fill in the vehicle identification form. The portal then works out what you owe.
5. Choose your appointment.
6. Pay on the platform.
7. Print the summary, or take a screenshot, and show it on the day of the inspection.

Without the TVM, the request goes nowhere: the inspection requires it to be paid first. The portal shows the TVM amount once your vehicle is identified, because it depends on the vehicle.

Paying for the inspection online

Two payments are involved, and the order matters.

First, the TVM. The inspection requires the motor vehicle tax (TVM) to be paid first, the government states. On service-public.bj, the TVM amount appears together with the inspection fee once the vehicle is identified.

Then the inspection, when you book. Payment is made on the platform right after you pick a slot (step 6 above). The printed or captured summary is your proof on the day. The sources consulted do not list the accepted payment methods (card, mobile money): the portal shows them at that step.

Your centre does not take online bookings yet?

For those sites, the Directorate General of Taxes moved the payment of the inspection's stamp duties online from 2 January 2025 (DGI statement). Payment is made on tresorbenin.bj:

1. Open tresorbenin.bj and choose "eQuittance - Paiement en ligne".
2. Select "Autres versements (Cautions, Consignations, etc.)".
3. Under "Nature du paiement", choose "Droits de timbre", then follow the instructions.
4. The platform generates a digital receipt that replaces the tax stamp: show it at the inspection.

What the inspection costs, and how often

The official sheet separates vehicles by category. That sets both the fee and how often you go.

The sheet also lists a "Confort" option, with extra travel packages. For another vehicle category, or the price of an option, the amount shown when you apply is the one that counts.

The CNSR headquarters in Ekpè takes appointments. Three annexes complete the network: Tangbo-Djevié, Bohicon and Parakou.

Driving without a certificate: what it changes

Does your insurance expire this month? Check your certificate first. Under interministerial order no. 2024-77 of 18 January 2024, any new insurance policy or renewal requires an up-to-date inspection certificate (source: ask.gouv.bj).

Skipping the inspection is also among the Highway Code offences listed in the enforcement campaign launched in 2024. The fine schedule is in the official texts, which this page does not reproduce.

One more point: ANaTT states that a vehicle's entitlements (TVM, insurance, inspection) are updated remotely on the Sécuroute sticker.
